Bybo – Dream On (2016)

0007876932_10Early September, Germany-based label dropped their 3rd release – Dream On EP by a Karlsruhe native, Bybo – a producer from Germany. First Touch lent a hand here with some mixing/post production and put their glossy stamp on most of the cuts.

This 6 track EP travels with ease through the spectrums of Modern Funk, Boogie, New Jack Swing & G-Funk and is definitely must have for the fans of all the above genres: “you get a mixture of fat synth bass, jazzy chords and mellow strings. The end result is a mix that ranges between 80s Funk and Gfunk. Besides this you can recognize elements of New Jack Swing, clearly in the track “Superintelligence” with features such as specific chords mixed with 80s synth sounds”.

The BREED ‎– The Beauty and The Breed (2016)

On 2nd September 2016 the world evidenced the release of one beautifully crafted album – THE BEAUTY & THE BREED which was released in Vinyl format. This is an type of an instrumental album by the artist calling himself The BREED, a producer from Germany, so honestly speaking we still hasn’t succeed in obtaining an answer to the question…

Anyways, this is an amazing instrumental hip-hop album which was spiced up by some nice talkbox and samples, and is a perfect kinda music for chillin’, BBQ’ing and cruisin’. Upon listening, it’s obvious that The BREED took its influences from South and West Coast Rap.

To cut it short, we just strongly advise you to go and check it out on his/her BANDCAMP where you can also buy a digital copy.

E3, Big2DaBoy, Collarossi ‎– West Coast Drive Thru (2016)

R-8923131-1471546403-1475.jpegHere we’re back up and running after the summer vacations, and would like to hit up with a real dope album which in the meantime got released on Top Shelf Wreckords: E3 aka Baby Eazy E, Big2DaBoy, Collarossi ‎– West Coast Drive Thru. It features guest appearances by MC Eiht, L.V., Big Pokey, Tha Hooksta, Da Unda Dogg & produced by Cartelsons, Laidback, June James, Tone Saucy & DJ Young Sam.

The album is dope all the way thru with dope lyrics and productions which will be appreciated by any G-Funk / West-Coast rap fans. We’d like to mention “Grind N’ Shine” song featuring Big Pokey with a good old southern feel to it, paying homage to Pimp C of UGK and DJ Screw.

All in all, having different producers and a pretty good number of guest appearances, this album is listened to as a whole and highly recommended by us.

The MoFunk Records is back at it again, and this time they’re releasing the full-length funk album by XL Middleton + Eddy Funkster to be released on 12th Aug 2016 in both Vinyl & CD formats.

“As co-founders of the label MoFunk Records, and the production team behind one of modern funk’s signature anthems, “Press Play” (featuring Zackey Force Funk), XL Middleton + Eddy Funkster’s album is truly an opus long overdue. In sound, it draws heavily from LA’s musical well over the last several generations, bringing forth hard electro funk styles on “Show Some Respect,” bouncy lowrider funk on cuts like “Solicitation,” and giving a progressive nod to 90’s g-funk on the LBC’d out “California Fly,” which features Domino of “Getto Jam” fame (even if you’re too young or coastally bipartisan to remember the song, heads will recall Biggie’s line “here we go, here we go, but I’m not Domino”). Furthermore, XL + EF channel the more modern feel of ambient, pad-heavy funk on songs like “On Our Way To Funkmosphere.” In spirit, it’s more of a P-Funkesque party, as the entire MoFunk roster plus extended family join in variously on all of the album’s 7 songs, contributing everything from vocals to guitar and talkbox. This is kind of party you’ll want to join in – an ongoing celebration known as modern funk.”

This is a great album overall & it features Moniquea, Diamond Ortiz, Lady Deuce & Megan Doherty of Social Lovers, Brian Ellis and, of course, Zackey Force Funk and the legendary OG Domino who were mentioned above.

Lil Woofy Woof – Back In Tha Dayz (2016)

Now it’s time for some big news that the homie CartelSons released Lil Woofy Woof‘s full-length album “Back In Tha Dayz” in CD format. The album was fully produced by CartelSons himself & it features such guests as Shade Sheist, WestCoast Stone, Richie Rich, Too Short, El Pecador (of Tha Mexakinz), Moe Z, Quictamac, Rekta, Chag G, Aloe Joel, E-White, Slip Capone, Pass Pass, Von Jackson, Monster Loco, Bokie Loc… The album came out too dope, it’s just a perfect g-funk album all the way though & a must-have for any g-funk fan.

ReemK80 – Odyssée (13.06.2016)

CD-FF0009Most probably, Fonkfatherz Records decided not to give their supporters a break and just recently came up with one  more release – this time it’s the full-length album “Odyssée“ by a French rapper ReemK80. His musical inspiration has been derived from Funk, French rap, hip-hop from New York to LA, but also from electro (especially Trip- Hop & Deep House) and world music such as Bossa Nova and oriental music. The favourite topics of ReemK80 are mainly social, where he addresses society and human relationships, navigating between melancholy and conviction. The album consists of 17 tracks (inc. one bonus track) and features the productions by Wadz and Rol.K.
