Bossolo – Written chapter two (2019)

Just a few months after droppin’ the first volume of Written, Bossolo is already back with the Chapter 2 !

It feels good to see rappers with a long career still doin’ that sick gangsta funk and being productive.

This is something we can’t say for most of the 90’s artists, famous or not. In fact most of them are actually not making the sound they dig but what can be sold the most depending the musical fashion trends.

They are evaluated and ranked by the number of spotify streams, youtube views or social network followers but what about introducing other criterias like consistency or integrity ?

If we do so then artists like Bossolo & Steve Vicious, with more than 25 years of West Coast groove activism are on top of the game, cause this whole music thang ain’t about fakin’ the funk but stayin’ true & keepin’ it real!

This said, let’s talk about that fresh release…Somehow we can compare it to a perfect dinner not that wack ass trap junk food but a funky gastronomic menu. Starter, dish, dessert wine & cognac to close the deal, every g-funk addict while goes out after the session with the stomach filled and head buzzin’ with good vibes.

Same ingredients, different recipes once again legendary SD producer Steve Vicious aka VMF brings his home made criminalistic funk on the table getting along smoothly with the voice and flow of the experienced southern cali MC.

Lyrics stay conscious but no falling into something spiritual, these positive messages will speak too all the cats around the globe strugglin’ to make a livin’ or facing personal issue.

Trough his life experience Bossolo act as a filter for the young generation, blocking violence and greediness, letting love and happiness spread. Something we are not used to in our favorite music genre but finally well welcomed.

Album contains 13 tracks filled with uptempo beats and synth bass, definitely enough to prevent you from skipping. The tradition of rappers from the golden state is also respected. With track California, the aera got another anthem, hook is laced by tight singer Ben Franklin, doin’ also 2 others in the album. Check this out :

No doubt we got here a dope soundtrack for this summertime, and like Pac said don’t support the phonies support the real so you betta don’t sleep on this and get your copy HERE !

Bossolo – Written chapter one (2019)

Let’s return now to the source of our favorite music genre , the big bad West Side, with Bossolo new album “Written Chapter 1” !

The southern California rapper who has started doing music 3 decades ago and already recorded more than fifteen album is back with another banger released in January on his independent label Bloc Hustle Ent.

This is a very dense and consistent album, Bossolo spits reality rap over sick ass beats served by Steve Vicious aka Vicious Man Funk, the result is nuthin but pure G-Funk from track 1 to 13 ! No need to introduce VMF, the legendary producer behind the success of many San Diego rap artist like Lil Rob, Mr Shadow or the Low Profile camp, creator of this dope and typical sound that can quickly be recognized by all of us. Mature in his lyrics Bossolo shares his life experience on the mic and the lessons he has learned going thru hard times. The output is a strong positive message and the song “Life is Beautiful” is a perfect exemple of this.

There are not so many releases that can be played and enjoyed from beginning to the end without skipping, and this “Written Chapter One” is one of those. If you want to get a taste, hit “Father Figure”, very representative of the heat Bossolo & VMF has provided on this album.

CenZa – Tout droit sorti de Montreuil (2019)

2019 has just begun and we couldn’t expect a better start for this new year with the release on January 18th of French rapper CenZa LP Tout droit sorti de Montreuil.

For all our worldwide G-funk addicts it means Straight Outta Montreuil, a little city next to Paris, and active location since a few years with shows organized regularly by Happy Milf Records.

CenZa is part of the group l’uZine and not new to the game as he has already released 2 other albums in 2007 “Ça vient des bas-fonds” & 2017 “Les Prophéties d’une plume” but with Tout droit sorti de Montreuil he brings this time a G-Funk oriented project on the table.

You can clearly hear with the way he gets down on the mic that he is experimented, the flow is modulated in order to hit the beat at the right time. This is what we expect from a real MC. He also handles the production of the funkiest tracks, the rest is done by Beubtwo and TonyToxik.

If you want to have a taste of his sound, hit title n° 5 “Ma Gueule”, a cocktail composed of a smashed beat, funky guitar, talkbox/singed hook…be ready to take a pure dose of gangsta shit ! The combination of the 3 different producers make the level and type of sound not equal during all the lengh of the album but many dope G-funk tracks are present like “Montreuil City G’z”, the Barkays & Ohio players sampled “Menace” or “Prendre la ride”.

We got here a solid product only pressed 1000 copies so you better not sleep on this ! You can buy it directly at the l’uZine Bandcamp.

Zone 28 Grams – Loyalty B4 betrayal (2018)

Northern California has always been a scene apart from the rest, pushed forward by Woodie (RIP) back in the late 90’s, the artists from this area have always stayed true to tha Funk.

Zone 28 grams is originally from Houston Texas but his project does not make an exception as it is released by the Antioch record label based Cali Life Musik. After dropping interesting releases like the H-Town to the bay compilations, Celly Cell & San Quinn “Bays Water Run Deep” or his “Mob Music”, CEO Cuddy brings here a solid album on the table. Production is handled by another Yoc town resident Kev Knocks, wellknown for his work for Big Tone – Sav It Out Records and in order to assemble all these fine ingredients the legendary K-Lou is on the mix.

This album contains different vibes, tracks like “All Screw Up” or “Nothing but a G thang” with heavy bass and G-Funk whistle will definitely make your head bop and turn up the volume. Female singed chorus “Cut 64 “ is a dope laid back track whereas “the hate is real” or “1 deep” will be enjoyed by all the listeners looking for gangsta shit. Music is at his best when it can motivate and inspire you, “Gotta be a G” with a great singed hook by Missippi is a banger and will make you push it to the limits. Zone keep it real in his lyrics and make you feel the top and down in the life of a G, he doesn’t have a technical flow but it gets along perfectly with the Kev Knocks beats.

One other point to be noticed, in our era of poor commercial rap where most of the beats are produced by a geek and recorded in a bedroom, is the high quality of the Loyalty B4 Betrayal sound. Instrumental, voices and chorus are clear and at the right level, it requires infrastructure and skills, Cuddy has invested in his own studio and brought one of the best producer of all time to mix and master it as the person of K-Lou. So be sure to cop it in CD format in order to enjoy it to the fullest.

A few more tracks would have been welcomed but quality is always better over quantity so this Loyalty B4 Betrayal got a good place in the top 10 of the 2018 G-Funk releases !
